VDMC Hosts Digital Ship Challenge Mid-Year Review
In late December 2024, VDMC hosted 22 teams from Landstown High School, Advanced Technology Center, Hampton High School, Heritage High School, Grassfield High School, and Western Branch High School for the Digital Ship Challenge Mid-Year Review. Students received guidance, instructions, and expectations for their vessel for the Challenge, which takes place in March 2025. Teams have been challenged to construct a support vessel that can maintain stability in open ocean conditions. The vessel must be capable of holding a specified weight of supplies, which may be at times unbalanced, while remaining at sea.
In March, the teams will be judged on several components including an engineering notebook, prototype iterations, and ship design and construction. The Mid-Year Review is a chance for the teams to refine their concepts, address any design challenges, and receive feedback on their progress so far.
We also had industry representatives host a career panel for the students. Thank you to the reps who gave the students sound advice on everything from navigating career pathways in STEM to developing essential skills for success in maritime and engineering industries.
We are so excited to see what the teams create for the Digital Ship Challenge in March!
