Reimagine Nauticus Grand Opening Night
November 9, 2024
Our Research Assistant Professor and Cognitive Engineer, Dr. Jessica Johnson, and Curriculum Coordinator, Jennifer Renne, attended the Reimagine Nauticus Grand Opening Thursday night, as Mrs. Renne serves on the Nauticus Education Advisory Committee. Attendees got to explore the newly transformed exhibits and experiences and witness the opening ceremony of the new wing of maritime exhibits.
“The new exhibits were so impressive! It was exciting to see maritime in Hampton Roads come to life,” Mrs. Renne said. “There is a chance for a lot of interaction with the new exhibits which anyone will enjoy – kids or adults. The crane and welding simulators were amazing, and we loved seeing the ODU exhibit, GearUp! I can’t wait to go back and bring my own family.”
In 2023, Nauticus launched a $21.5 million campaign to align the organization’s educational priorities with state-of-the-art exhibits, innovative programs, and a new visitor experience. The holistic redesign aims to parallel newly created “STEM to Stern” programming and chart a course for the next generation of families, learners, and professionals. Old Dominion University’s exhibit is part of one of the redesigned galleries and demonstrates the array of careers in the blue economy.
